The Last Word was created as Prohibition loomed, by vaudevillian Frank Fogarty at the Detroit Athletic Club. The original mixed gin, Maraschino, Green Chartreuse, and lime. Our version swaps the base for Tobala mezcal - a wild Oaxacan agave that takes 12 to 17 years to mature - lending depth and quiet smoke. We clarify our lime juice with anti-pectin enzymes and fining agents, then spin it through a centrifuge before adding proper dilution and stirring to order, keeping the cocktail un-aerated. The result is clean, vivid, and impeccably balanced - the kind of drink that always gets the last word.
